DOOM
'N' GLOOM
DOOM/Goth-rockers
Ashen Mortality who have recently released their second
album Your Caress prepare to go grass roots for
an appearance at Hobbits nite club - not to be missed.
Ashen Mortality singer/guitarist Ian Arkley and his wife,
singer/keyboard player Melanie moved to Weston from
Birmingham with their daughter last year to escape the
concrete jungle for more rural pastures.
Ex-Seventh Angel member Ian, and Melanie formed the band
in early 1993 along with now departed drummer Ben Jones
and bass player Tim Cooper who has a PhD in nuclear
physics and plays piano in a classical trio.
Their first self-titled demo was recorded in 1994 at The
Wall Birmingham by Andy Wickett, who was the original
singer in 80's new romantic heroes Duran Duran before
Simon Le Bon.
Prepared to go to any lengths to spread their music, the
band undertook one of its early tours of Germany and
Holland in a Ford Fiesta that carried all four band
members, equipment and all their personal luggage.
In 1996 Melanie set up her own record label, Forsaken
Records for the band as they released their debut album Sleepless
Remorse.
Many gigs and a mini-tour followed, supporting such bands
as At The Gates and Hecate Enthroned with a great
response.
In 1998 along with new drummer George Aytoun the band
started work on its second album using the same studio
and engineer as legendary controversial
theatrical-doomsters and stars of BBCTV's Living With
The Enemy, Cradle Of Filth.
Ashen Mortality's latest offering Your Caress,
described as 'both powerful and beautiful, heavy grooves
layered with menacing vocals, haunting keyboards and
fragile female vocals' is out now on Forsaken Records.
